Barton Town secured their first win of the season over Silsden in an at times feisty affair at the Easy Buy Stadium.

The Swans began the time on top, playing free flowing football and showing some fantastic link up play. Tom Waudby came in for his first start of the season and was keen to win every ball, making things happen from the wing.

It was Waudby who had the game’s first chance after just nine minutes. Brother Will Waudby played a fantastic diagonal ball which Tom volleyed first time. The ball dipped but went just over the crossbar.

Five minutes later Barton were ahead, Tom Waudby played the ball to Ben Hinchliffe, whose side footed volley flew past the Silsden ‘keeper and into the back of the net. A brilliant move by Barton finished by a great finish from the in-form Hinchliffe.

Ben Hinchliffe puts us ahead with a beautiful volley.

As half time came Barton were containing Silsden, who were pressing and playing some good football of their own. The second half saw the game come alive, however.

Five minutes after the break Silsden were down to ten men after a tackle on Craig Disley which could have been a lot worse in different circumstances. The referee sent off the Silsden centre half. Matt Plummer was booked for his reaction in the melee which ensued following the tackle.

Just four minutes later there was another challenge on Disley, and this one was worse than the previous tackle. However, referee Garry Fletcher-Tindall only brandished a yellow card, much to the bemusement of the Swans fans.

On 57 minutes Barton were in an attacking position and Plummer went down in the area. Instead of awarding a penalty Fletcher-Tindall gave Plummer his second yellow for simulation, both sides now on ten men.

Instead of heads dropping this seemed to galvanise Barton, ten minutes later Tom Waudby was again the architect as he squared the ball to Hinchliffe. His first shot cannoned off the bar, but he was able to receive it again and tap home at the second attempt. Two goals ahead and heading for their first points.

Hinchliffe adds another to his tally, taking him to eight for the season.

Praise must be reserved for Harvey Cartwright in the Swans goal, the youngster on loan from Hull City pulled off a string of fantastic saves to keep Barton in the lead. As the game wound down, he pulled off a fantastic fingertip save to push the ball over the bar and out for a Silsden corner.

The corner couldn’t clear the first man, in this case Eddie Rogerson, and he ran with the ball. He rode one challenge to stop the counter, and played the ball in to substitute Jamie Goddard, who was in on goal. He tapped the ball home and secured three points, and a three-goal winning margin for Barton.
