Craig Denton End of Season Review

1st April 2020 Off By bartontown

Firstly, I would like to start with saying a huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers of this football club. Because without them this club wouldn’t be able to run like it does.

I have fully enjoyed my time at Barton Town Football Club and long may that continue. Don’t get me wrong it was certainly a big task and a project I wanted to undertake.

Since being at the helm of the Swans, I think it’s clear to see the progress that has been made on the pitch.

After taking over in early October, it was clear to see that a few things needed sorting and I wasn’t afraid to do so. We had to massively recruit new personnel to give the club a much needed boost, and I believe we did that.

After narrowly losing to Staveley away on October 12th, I believe we went from strength to strength, beating Bottesford, coming back from 3-0 down in the Lincs Senior Trophy to 3-3 and winning on penalties against Skegness certainly gave our club a huge lift.

Then a tremendous run of drawing away at Thackley, beating Athersley Rec and then taking all three points at home to Garforth was a huge spring board.

The Swans have had many ups and downs this season. The ups include beating league leaders Staveley and also going unbeaten in 7 games, giving us valuable points to push up the table. Now the lows must certainly be our huge injury list, which I believe stopped us from getting into that top six in the table.

Losing our captain Craig Disley for months, long term injuries such as Chris Salt, Robbie Start, Ash Cooper, Eddie Rogerson and Noel Burdett. Along with Taron Hare missing 2/3 weeks and many others who had a huge effect on us.

But that’s football, however I do believe we would be further up the table if these injuries didn’t happen, but that’s how things go in football.

The recruitment of Jack Richardson, Adam Millson, Waide Fairhurst, and along with others were a huge lift. However it’s now time to plan and sit down with the football club and make plans for next season.

Huge thanks to Pete Mitchell, our Secretary, who has been great since my arrival and thanks go to our Chairman and Vice Chairman Mark and Kim.

But a huge thanks to the wonderful players and for all their tremendous efforts. It’s certainly clear to see the efforts, well done. Thanks to my awesome backroom team, Rob, Wayne, James, and not forgetting Sid and Jay Jay.

Also thank you to the fans for your support this season, hope to see you again next season.

Stay safe, stay home, and up the Swans!

Craig.
