The Swans Reserves side advanced into the second round of the aptly named Whiteheads Fish & Chips Cup in dramatic fashion as Ben Herrick scored in injury time on his first run out since a broken leg back in December last year.

The Reserves fielded a young, attacking line up with Salter, Everitt and Herrick all coming in for Starts.

The first 45 minutes drew a blank and was mainly dominated by Barton who created a couple of openings to no success, with Meffen and Herrick on target but not beating the Driffield ‘keeper.

Driffield was growing into the game and had similar efforts saved late in the half.

The second half was much more of a watch for the 70 plus crowd.

Firstly the again deputy ‘keeper Matt Graves saved well from Potter for the Swans.

Herrick tried his luck from distance and that effort landed just on the top of the net, and then Kershaw missed a glorious chance at the back post which was bravely blocked by the Driffield EI defence.

The deadlock was finally broken around the 70th minute when Gibson shot from 30 plus yards with a cracking strike which hit the underside of the bar en route into the Swans goal, to set up what looked like an upset.

The Swans Reserves side had other ideas and turned it around in dramatic style as a crazy final eight minutes saw them claim victory.

Scott Meffen equalised after some fine build up play and turned his man to curl home low to the keepers right from the edge of the box.

Much credit to both sides though as both sought a winner, and In the 92nd minute Herrick was sent clear by Sampson and curled home from a difficult angle to score the winner. Much to the delight of the home fans and dugout.

Manager Liam Graham reflected on his sides performance:
“Credit to my team today, if ever there is a game for us to look back on and say keep going to the very end then this will be it.

“We showed bags of character today, we showed courage when it mattered. The young lads deserve praise for outstanding performances and a special mention to Ben, who worked his socks off up top on his own and got his reward.

“Really pleased to see him back out on a pitch, and I know how much it means to him having worked closely on his recovery. It’s important that we build on this performance and take it into next week’s game.”
