Both sides were playing open, free flowing attacking football in the first 45 and despite going in at the break 0-0 it could have been a couple of goals for each side.. Hessle defended bravely on a number of occasions, with Barton having to keep out two efforts late in the first half.
The second half started with a goal straight away in just the 46th minute as Hessle took the lead after a cross was converted by the free man at the back post.
Barton then had double the workload in the 52nd minute as Hessle made it 2-0 with the goal coming from a corner and a free header in the six yard box.
Barton then found themselves going through the gears and pulled one back with a man in the sin bin through Adam Whall, who followed up a Finnis shot to blast home close range.
Substitute Michael Broom then popped up to score from outside the 18 yard box with a powerful curling effort which avoided the herd of attempted blocks to find its way into the Hessle goal to level things up in the 69th minute.
Whall then found himself in the bin leaving Barton down to nine players for at least five minutes of the game. Hessle made sure they made the most of it by retaking the lead when beating the offside trap and neatly putting away the ball into the Swans net.
After all the hard work to draw back level previously the Swans then found themselves in exactly the same situation as Hessle bagged again minutes later to take another two goal advantage with just 10 to go.
The Reserves pulled one back via the penalty spot which was converted by Nathan Patchett in the 88th minute, but much too much to do so late in the game saw the Reserves slip to a fourth home defeat of the season.
The Reserves face a tough month ahead meeting first high flying Beverley Town this coming Saturday at Norwood then a trip to Dene Park the week after looking to get some much needed points.
