Barton Town fell to another late defeat as a Devonte Newman-Morton brace sealed the points for the hosts.

A scrappy first half was followed by a second half with three goals. Morton opened the scoring the Goole before Matt Plummer brought us level. However, Goole hit the Swans on the break and Morton added his second in the dying moments.

The only player missing from Barton’s squad was Waide Fairhurst, as the Swans made the small trip to Goole.

Both sides had half chances in the first ten minutes, with both goalkeepers pulling off nice saves in what was an even opening period.

19 minutes in we saw one of the first big chances of the game, as a Goole striker struck the ball on the edge of the area, and Riches initially parried but managed to recover and catch it well.

With half an hour gone Goole were on top, pressuring Barton and capitalizing on every little mistake. James Faulkner almost opened the scoring for the Vikings with a nicely taken shot but a Barton defender blocked it and saw it out for a corner.

Barton’s first real chance of the game almost brought the first goal after 44 minutes. After being restricted to half chances, the ball was played to Peter Winn, whose cross was defended by Goole, but the ball fell to Ben Hinchliffe on the edge of the six yard area. His shot was well saved by the Goole ‘keeper in what was a golden chance for the Swans.

Shortly after the break the Swans almost scored again. Some nice inter-play in the area saw the ball fall to Adam Millson, and his effort bounced back off the crossbar. Barton unlucky not to be ahead.

Goole then took the lead moments later, the referee missed a push in the back of a Barton player in the build up and the ball was crossed in. Devonte Newman-Morton rose high to head a looping ball over Sam Riches and into the back of the net.

Two minutes later Barton were almost level when a Goole defender headed the ball towards his own net, only for the keeper to pull off a good save.

There were half chances galore as both sides looked to grab the lead. Luke Foster was booked on 72 minutes for a cynical challenge on a Goole attacker, preventing a certain chance.

The Swans then won a corner with 15 minutes left to play. Joel Sutton swung a ball in which bounced and fell to Matt Plummer. The defender pulled off a nice dummy before curling his shot through three defenders and into the back of the net.

In stoppage time a mishit pass by Winn fell to Reagan Waud, who played in Morton who was in on goal. He managed to round Riches and tap the ball into the back of the net for a late winner. Foster tried in vain to block the ball but Morton slotted home his and Goole’s second of the night.

The drama didn’t end there however, as a nice flick on from Will Waudby played in Hinchliffe, whose first time shot cannoned off the post, denying Barton a last gasp equalizer as the referee blew for full time.
