Barton Town ran out 3-0 winners against a young Scunthorpe Under 18’s side. A brace from Ryan Caulfield and a goal from Grant Tait sealed the win for the Swans.
In a first half with few chances, due to both sides playing a high defensive line, Barton showed spells of good football. Matt Plummer and Craig Disley both nearly opened the scoring with headers from corners. However neither could get their efforts on target.
Ben Hinchliffe was brought off after half an hour after a clash with the Scunthorpe goalkeeper. He made way for Caulfield.
The game opened up in the second half, with Barton starting to take control of the game. The resolute Scunthorpe defence stood firm for most of the game, but the deadlock was broken in the 65th minute.
The ball was heading out, with Josh Lacey chasing after it. After a brilliant turn of pace, he caught it and swung it in first time. It fell to Josh Batty who cut it back for Caulfield to tap into an open net.
Ten minutes later it was two, Luke Wheeldon received the ball on the left hand side, and played a high through ball from the halfway line. The ball was met by Tait in the area who headed past the Scunthorpe goalkeeper to double Barton’s lead. It was his second goal in as many games.
There were further chances from Plummer and Taron Hare to add to the Swans tally but the two goalscorers linked up to add a third.
Tait ran with the ball down the right hand side before crossing the ball in. It was met by Caulfield who headed it home and scored his second goal and round off a good performance from the Swans against a young Scunthorpe side.
