Barton Town’s brand new Under 8’s and Under 9’s teams were in action this weekend. The Under 8’s were at a tournament at Pelican Park in Hull. Meanwhile the Under 9’s were facing Cleethorpes Town Tilletts in their first league game.

Under 9’s

“Sunday saw the U9’s in their first league game of the campaign in the Croft’s Grimsby League. We have prepped well over the pre-season period and the lads transferred all this hard work into the game. They worked hard for each other and showed some fantastic finishing in front of the goal. This season has been a transitional one for the lads as they have moved from 5 to 7 a-side. This means playing for longer and on a bigger pitch, there’s so much to learn but the lads have smashed this so far by listening to the coaching and learning. Sunday’s Man of the Match goes to Harry Hatcliffe, a great day at the office for Harry, some fantastic goals and also read the game so well when he played centre back. Well done Young Swans 🦢”- Paul Roberts – Manager.

Under 8’s

“This Saturday saw the U8 team compete in the Pelican Utd annual tournament over in East Hull. We came across some strong teams in our group stages from across the Yorkshire region. Our players did amazingly, they played their hearts out with some very strong performances and clinical finishing. We made light work of the group stages and we only conceded one goal all day. But unfortunately it wasn’t our day as after having a penalty decision turned down for the young Swans, our opponents went into our box and, with a scrappy piece of play which saw Woody make a great save, the rebound was bundled into the net. One minute later the final whistle blew and that was it, we congratulate our opponents though in the final Goole Town FC, who played amazingly. Jac Roberts with eight clinical goals comes away with our man of the Tournament award. Well done all the young Swans today. Finally, this completes our tournament season and now we concentrate on league games through the winter months. It’s fitting I just say a massive congratulations to the squad who haven’t finished a tournament outside a final this summer and came away with the big trophy at the Elloughton Tournament, this stat by itself is a huge achievement and shouldn’t be sniffed at and every player should be proud of themselves. Big well done.” – Paul Roberts – Manager.
