Barton Town Reserves Manager Stefan Wolkowski has decided to step down from his role with immediate effect.

Stef took over in October 2021 and has stabilised the side and built an impressive Lincolnshire League team. He leaves his role but will remain with the team until the end of the season to help out and assist where necessary.

In his 53 games in charge of the Reserves, Stef’s team won 25 (47.2%), as well as reaching the quarter finals of the Challenge Cup. Another key aspect of the Reserves was seeing players step up and make appearances for the first team in 2021-22. These included Kadey Phillips, Joel Chapman and Jacob Sweeting.

Chris Rodgers will also be departing the club with Stef, after an association of over five years with the Swans. Firstly as a player and then as an assistant.

In the meantime, Lee Thompson has agreed to take charge of the side until the end of the season. Lee has been helping Stef with the team for the last few months and following discussions with the Chairman, has agreed to take charge.

Stef looked back on his time at the club, stating: “In October 2021 I took over the side in very difficult circumstances and to see the team as it is now, it’s something I’m very proud of.

“I’ve had amazing support from not just our management team but them people who are now good friends.

“This is the best group of lads I’ve had the pleasure to manage and enjoy our Saturday’s together. The time has come for me to step away and become a supporter of these great lads.

“When I decided last week that the time was right, I asked for two big wins to finish it all off and we got that chance against our local rivals.

“Thommo is an amazing bloke, amazing gaffer and he will take this team to places I couldn’t and that is something I can’t wait to see.

“It’s a special club filled with special people and I will always be forever grateful for the opportunity given.

“A Swan for life.”

The club would like to express its gratitude to Stef for not only stepping in last season and stabilising the side, but also for his tireless work with the club over the years. We wish him and Chris all the best going forward and they’re both welcome back anytime.
