Swans crash out of Vase to Stockport Georgians

Barton Town were eliminated from the FA Vase by Stockport Georgians. Sam Marshall’s 29th minute goal proving to be the difference on an off-day for the Swans.
The Georgians took the lead just before the half-hour mark and never looked threatened. A Tom Waudby shot bouncing off the crossbar as close as Barton came to an equalizer.

In what was Swans boss Nathan Jarman’s 100th game at the helm, there was only one change to the starting XI which defeated Bottesford Town 4-0 in midweek. Craig King returned in place of Henry Parr as the 3-5-2 system continued.
The game began, as most have this season, at a fast pace. Neither side could get a foothold on the ball. The first real chance of the game came on 24 minutes when Jock Curran won the ball well and played in Tom Waudby. He flicked it on into the path of Harrison Coley. The striker ran in and tried to beat his man to create space but the Stockport defender cleared.
In a sign of things to come, moments later a Swans corner was countered by Stockport, with the shot curling just wide. The next chance however would prove to settle the game.
The Swans failed to clear their lines, with the ball being played to a Georgians player. They played in Sam Marshall who curled his effort into the top right corner with Ryan Musselwhite rooted to the spot.
Coley had another effort before half time, taking a touch in the area but his curling strike sailed over the bar.
It was a much more dominant second half for the Swans as they fought for an equalizer. Tom Waudby’s right footed strike soon after the break was deflected out for a corner. His brother Will was introduced soon after, replacing Jock Curran.
The Swans were afforded plenty of possession, but weren’t able to carve out any gilt-edged chances. Will Waudby put a shot just wide but it took until stoppage time to have a real effort on goal.
The ball was crossed in and Tom Waudby hit it on the half volley. The ball bounced off the crossbar and rolled out for a goal kick. Moments later the referee blew for full time. The Swans out of the Vase and were now focusing on the league.
