Barton Town’s spell at the top of the league came to an abrupt end as Silsden put in a clinical display to inflict a heavy defeat on the Swans.

A first half Kayle Price hat-trick did the damage, with two of his goals coming in first half stoppage time. These goals effectively killed off the contest as the Swans went into damage limitation mode. Casey Stewart’s 25 yard strike in the second half rounded things off for the hosts.

There were three changes from the side that won 4-1 at Goole on Friday. Nathan Hotte and Fraser Papprill returned in defence, replacing Josh Lacey and Josh Smaller, both unavailable. Will Waudby started following his two goal cameo from the bench on Friday, replacing Henry Cook.

Silsden had the first real chance of the game when Price headed just wide from a nice cross into the area. A sign of things to come for the Swans, with Price having scored a hat-trick in the previous game.

The closest Barton came to scoring came 12 minutes in when Tom Waudby’s looping header had the goalkeeper beat. It was hooked off the line by a Silsden defender and cleared.

Midway through the half Silsden took the lead. Capitalising on some bad defending by the Swans, Isaac Baldwin slotted in to put the hosts in front, and give them a lead they never surrendered.

On the half-hour mark a nice through ball was ran onto by Price, who made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net to double the lead.

It was almost three a couple of minutes later when the ball struck the crossbar before Price’s follow up shot was saved by Ryan Musselwhite.

Barton had another half chance when Sam Cable’s shot was saved by Kyle Trennery. The Swans not having many chances on goal.

First half stoppage time was where the game was well and truly won. Price scoring two goals in two minutes to send the Swans in four nil down at the break.

The second half saw an improved performance from the Swans, who were doing their best to limit the damage and try to get at least a consolation goal.

With ten minutes left to play, Silsden scored for a fifth and final time. Casey Stewart striking from 25 yards out with an excellent shot which was beyond Musselwhite and into the back of the net. Icing on the cake for the hosts who now sit top of the table.

The Swans drop to third and now have the chance to turn it around at home when Golcar United come to Barton on Saturday.
