A manic five minutes saw the Swans defeated by a clinical Campion side at the 1stGlass UK Stadium.

It was a case of ‘same old story’ as the hosts raced into a 3-0 lead before the half-hour mark with goals from Sam Bradley, Nicky Boshell and Nathan Cartman. While a better performance in the second half, Barton came from another game without a point, extending the winless run to four games.

There were three changes from the side which lost at Knaresborough in midweek. Henry Cook came in for Reece Moody who was unavailable. Josh Smaller and Josh Lacey were brought in for Tom Davie and Fraser Papprill, who were both on the bench. Kian Salter returned to the bench after a period out through injury.

It was almost the perfect start for the Swans as Harrison Coley burst through on goal. Going one on one with Brad Emmerson in the Campion goal. However an excellent last ditch tackle from Karl Fitzgerald denied the Barton forward an opportunity at goal.

Nathan Cartman then went close for the hosts, seeing his shot roll wide in what was an end to end opening few minutes.

12 minutes in and Will Waudby swung in an excellent cross to brother Tom. His sweet volley was well stopped by Emmerson as it looked destined for the net. Barton were soon made to rue these missed chances however as the hosts took the lead.

20 minutes in and a corner was swung in. There was a man unmarked at the back post who played it into the path of Sam Bradley. His first time strike nestled into the bottom left corner to put Campion ahead.

It was two three minutes later when a throw in wasn’t dealt with, the ball was headed to Nicky Boshell whose turn and shot rolled into the bottom corner past Jordan Douglas to double the lead and set the Swans an uphill task.

Barton’s day got even worse when a ball was laid off to Fitzgerald who swung it into the box. It was cleared into the path of Aiden Day. He hit a neat first time pass on the outside of his boot into the path of Cartman. He slotted the ball into the bottom corner to all but seal the win for the hosts after just 25 minutes.

Ten minutes later the Swans were showing some fight, Tom Waudby beat the offside trap and ran in on goal, but the in-form forward’s strike was well stopped again by Emmerson.

Campion had time to strike the bar moments before the break with the job virtually done for the hosts.

The second half saw Campion cruising to the win and just managing any Swans attacks. Midway through the half they struck the post to almost have that fourth goal to well and truly kill off the game.

Matt Clayton and Fraser Papprill were introduced for Henry Cook and Clark Greaves, with the latter not finishing a game for the first time this season. He’d been ever-present until then.

Moments before the end Barton almost had a consolation when Tom Waudby’s shot was cleared off the line, much to the frustration of the Swans.

Another game another defeat, but a return to home soil on Tuesday against Goole gives the Swans a golden chance to arrest the losing run.
