After a series of pre-season matches which had disappointing results for the Barton Town supporters, and with the first match of the new campaign against one of last season’s play-off finalists, there may have been an air of apprehension around the ground when 3pm came around and the referee started the game.
Clearly the Barton Town players had pushed all thoughts of the previous games behind them and started the game with purpose and the first half saw most “traffic” heading towards the Albion Sports keeper.
The second half saw Albion Sports more dominant and with 20 minutes left on the clock Anthony Bowsley decided it was time for some changes. Initial change was to replace Elliot Broughton (he’d picked up the only yellow card of the match a little earlier) with Ellis Barkworth.
Soon after Louis Boyd came on for Ali Aydemir, and shortly after Scott Phillips was replaced by Reece Moody.
The sum result of these changes saw the home side reassert their control of the game, pushing Albion Sports to defend their goal as The Swans looked to get a last minute winning goal. With 5 minutes of time added on it seemed that Barton Town redoubled their efforts only to be thwarted by the “woodwork”.
Shared points seemed a fair result with both teams making opportunities that could have secured a win.
