Barton Town fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday at the Easy Buy Stadium.

Two goals in the first ten minutes from Fernando Moke and Ashley Flynn put Barton on the back foot, who grew into the game before Flynn scored a second in the second half to seal the win for the visitors.

Swans boss Dave Ricardo went for a 3-5-2 formation with Harvey Cartwright in goal. Levi Tarbotton, Alex Knaggs and Cameron Morfoot were the defensive trio with Joe Busby and Will Waudby operating as wing backs. Tom Sawyer, Mitch Langton and Craig Disley played in the midfield with Ben Hinchliffe and Reece Moody up front.

After just two minutes the visitors won a free kick. Matthew Dempsey floated in a ball which Moke rose highest to, heading past Cartwright to give Yorkshire the dream start.

Five minutes later they doubled their lead. A ball bounced into the area, with Cartwright misjudging the bounce, he got a hand to it but it fell at the feet of Flynn, who tapped in from two or three yards out.

Not the start the Swans wanted, as they pushed to get back into the game. Moody and Hinchliffe were getting shots away, but the Yorkshire defence stood firm to keep the Swans at bay.

Ricardo introduced Tom Waudby at the break in place of Langton to try and add some firepower to the attack.

Waudby set up the first real Swans chance of the game. He teed up Hinchliffe, whose shot struck the cross bar and bounced out for a goal kick. Edward Wilczynski had a good game in the Yorkshire goal.

There were further efforts from Moody and Alex Knaggs, but neither threatened the scoreline and it was the visitors who added to their tally on 77 minutes.

Tarbotton lost the ball high up the field, leaving a hole in the defence. Flynn exploited the gap and ran onto a fine through ball. Cartwright came out to try and narrow the angle, but Flynn expertly rounded the young ‘keeper and tapped in for his brace and the third Yorkshire goal.

There was time for one more chance for the visitors as Moke struck just inside the area, but his effort went wide of Cartwright’s goal.

The full-time whistle blew and the Swans start the season with a defeat, but with Yorkshire in clinical form in front of goal, there’s no reason to worry just yet.

Swans man of the match: Joe Busby.
