30th August 2019Last night our Reserves welcomed Sculcoates Amatuers to a lively Easy Buy Stadium, unfortunately coming away from the game with nothing as the away side edged the odd goal in 5 in front of a 70+ crowd.

Sam Wood returned in goal, along with Dec Marshall and Aaron Finnis to the starting 11, and the first half was largely unspectacular with Barton having large spells of possession in the first 30 mins.
A hard working Sculcoates started to grow into the game late in the first period and Barton found themselves going in at half time 1-0 down after conceding a penalty in the 39th minute which was dispatched by Sculcoates. A sin bin booking meant the Reserves finished the first half with 10 men.
The second half was a crazy 45/50 minute period that saw 4 goals, bookings, penalties and another sin bin.
Elliot Sampson made way for Liam Coleman and Barton were clear in their efforts to get back on level terms in the opening minutes of the second half with Sculcoates’ veteran ‘keeper saving well from Jack Finnis.
However in the 53rd minute Barton doubled their task when Sculcoates broke away and scored a second which was neatly taken.
Matt Graves came on for Kian Salter as Barton changed shape, and the change worked instantly with Barton now being awarded a penalty in the 61st minute after Aaron Finnis was fouled , Scott Meffen put away the spot kick to trigger Barton into life at last.
Tackles were getting later, and the pace of the game was at full tilt now, and the pressure told as Barton found themselves back on level terms in the 73rd minute when Coleman arrived at the far post to put away a Tad Dixon cross. The Easy Buy Stadium was rocking.
Barton were pushing for a winner and causing Sculcoates problems down both flanks to which they were dealing with but just lacking the killer touch in the final third, and true as football is Sculcoates broke away beat the offside trap and scored the winner in the 78th minute with the goalscorer being sin binned for an over the top celebration much to the disbelief off most in the Stadium.
Barton pressed on in the hope of an equaliser but it just wouldn’t come as Sculcoates held on for the 3 points.
An entertaining game under the lights at the Easy Buy, and another super crowd who was in full voice.
The Reserves go again Saturday, again at Home to North Ferriby Reserves hoping to put right Thursday defeat. Kick off is at 2pm.
