Barton Town defeated Garforth Town 3-1 at the Easy Buy Stadium in an eventful game for the Swans.

As they did last week against Athersley, Barton raced into a three goal lead, with goals from Adam Millson, Marc Cooper and Waide Fairhurst. Garforth scored soon after the third through Mark Simpson to complete the scoring before half time. In the second half Craig Denton was sent off for a ‘sarcastic remark.’

The Swans began the game on top, with two new signings Taron Hare and Noel Burdett making their debuts. On 14 minutes the Swans broke down the left hand side with Ben Hinchliffe running the ball down the wing. He squared the ball in to Millson, who prodded home his second goal for Barton this season.

22 minutes in and the lead was doubled. Burdett played in a fantastic ball from the right, with Cooper volleying it home in ‘Di Canio-esque’ fashion to give Barton a two goal lead.

Garforth were having their own chances but the defence was holding firm. They broke and ran towards goal, but Hare was quick enough to keep up with the attacker and cut out the attack.

A few minutes before half time it was three. A brilliant through ball by Cooper found Fairhurst, who managed to round Garforth ‘keeper Toby Wells before tapping in from close range.

Seconds after this though Garforth got themselves back in the game. With Sam Riches’ view blocked by a busy area, Mark Simpson slotted the ball into the bottom corner for his 100th goal for Garforth, a fantastic achievement.

Midway through the second half Barton were on top, with Hinchliffe having a few half chances. Garforth were well in the game when a couple of the floodlights dimmed, reducing the vision quality. The referee suspended play.

While it was being worked on, Garforth marched their players off with consent from the referee. They soon came back out, with Swans boss Denton protesting the stoppage. The lights were soon back on, with Denton stating that the lights were indeed back on. The referee misinterpreted it as sarcasm and sent Denton off from the touchline for the remaining 25 minutes.

Once the game resumed both sides had their chances to add to the scoreline but none were taken. Barton win again to be undefeated in three league games, with the Swans winning three of their last five in the league.
