The Reserves luck didn’t change on Saturday falling to a 9th Humber Premier league defeat and a 7th game where they have lost the game by the odd goal, after going down 3-2 away to Hedon Rangers.

Prior to the game an impeccable minutes silence was observed in memory of Talia Roberts, partner of Reserves player Elliot Sampson, who tragically passed away late last week. Our thoughts and condolences remain with Elliot, and Talia’s loved ones during this difficult time.

The Reserves made a few changes to the previous week, with Jack Dunn returning in goal, skipper Robin Woodforth returning along with Ben Herrick plus the addition of first team player Will Waudby in a midfield 3.

The Opening 15 minutes seemed a little hectic as the ball was like a hot potato with no one getting a foot hold in the game.

But for the second week running the Reserves conceded a goal in the opening 20 as Hedon worked the ball to the far right hand flank cut inside and delivered a tempting ball which was gratefully accepted from the Hedon player inside the box to put the hosts 1-0 up.

Will Waudby went close not long after with a long range effort which stung the fingers of Hedon’s keeper.

Both sides were struggling to get long periods of play in possession throughout the first half. However 5 minutes before the break Hedon doubled their lead after the wide man slipped his marker at the back post to slot home from 6 yards. A goal which had assistants been present would have made it a tight call. Not to be and the Reserves went in trailing 2-0 at the break.

The second half saw a much improved, aggressive and workmanlike performance much to the disappointment to get nothing from the game.

Dixon made way for young Harry Peacock who slipped in a right midfield to add width to the game.

Just after the hour through his own hard work in pressing the Hedon back line Micheal Broom got one back for the Reserves, after winning the ball he calmly tucked the ball away low to the keepers right in the 63rd minute.

Tempers were flurrying as the game was now at full pace and tackles starting to fly in.

Herrick then had a glorious chance, as his attempted chip was claimed by the Hedon keeper, Broom then went one on one and his effort rolled agonisingly wide of the far post.

Those chances would prove costly as a defensive blunder was capitalised on by Hedon with 20 minutes to go as the ball hit both Barton players in a rush of blood to clear the ball, the Hedon man ran on through to get the 3rd Hedon goal of the game.

Goluch replaced Herrick, and with 15 plus added time to go, the Reserves were desperate for a goal, which they duly got courtesy of a penalty when Goluch was brought down turning in the box. Man of the Match Will Waudby had no problem in converting from 12 yards.

Waudby then went close within the dying stages with another thunderous effort which went just wide, that was followed up with claims of another penalty shout for handball in the last minute which was waved away by the referee to condemn Barton Res to yet another agonising defeat.

The Reserves hope to change their luck when hosting Reckitts AFC at the Easy buy this Saturday, where manager Liam Graham is urging for support. In a bid to pick up a second victory of the season.
