The Reserves picked up a valuable three points on Saturday in an impressive 2-0 away win at mid table Sculcoates Amatuers at a cold, windy St Mary’s College. The win was more so important as Reckitts just above the Swans Reserves outfit also picked up a big win at Hedon.

The Swans Reserves side made a few changes with Skipper Robin Woodforth returning along with Ben Herrick, Dan Goluch and Nathan Patchett.

The first half drew a stalemate although it can be said Sculcoates had the fair share of possession as The Reserves defended brilliantly in difficult weather conditions. Barton had a half chance when Harry Finnis attempted to lift the ball over Scully’s keeper to no avail. Then Swans keeper Jack Dunn pulled off a fine save late in the first half low to his left to send the sides in 0-0 at the break.

The second half was seemingly heading in a similar direction, and fitness was always going to be important. However a slight shift in formation for the Swans eased the pressure that Sculcoates were causing.

Connah Oliver was introduced to add fresh legs to the attack replacing Herrick who had worked his socks off.
Barton began to push back now causing both full backs problems and creating much more. That pressure told midway through the half as Man of the Match Luke Kershaw showed great desire after initially starting the move to get into the box and stab home after a rebound fell his way.

In the 74th minute came the moment of the game as Bryn Everitt’s cross field pass found Kian Salter on the edge of the box, Salter then turned his man with an audacious flick that can only be compared to that of Bergkamp! As the ball went one way he went the other to lose his marker and fired his shot low to the right hand corner to give the Swans a two goal lead. A truly brilliant individual price of skill.

Sculcoates then had lots of the ball and Barton kept up to their workmanlike shift to keep them at bay. Sculcoates then had a chance to reduce the deficit when awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute , this after Clay Bryant had brought down his man. Thankfully the usually ruthless Liam White blasted his effort against the foot of the post to keep the score 2-0. His first penalty miss in 23 so we were told, Good time for it to come.

A valuable and very rewarding three points for the Swans Reserves who entertain a high flying Beverley Town at The Easy Buy this coming Saturday.
