The Common Ground – Bridlington Town

15th January 2020 Off By bartontown

Over the years a lot of players have played for both Barton Town and Bridlington Town. With both being in such close proximity, players are bound to have appeared for the Swans and the Seasiders. Below are three players to have worn both shirts during their careers.

1: Scott Phillips

A Swans legend, Scott has scored plenty of goals for both sides. He scored 75 goals for Barton, as well as 40 for Bridlington Town in the NCEL. He is still well regarded with the Seasiders too. The current Chalk Lane striker was a pivotal part of both sides and nearly won promotion while at the Swans in 2014. He once scored 37 goals in one season, in 2014-15, only Gaz Barlow (38) has scored more in one season for Barton in the NCEL.

2: Tom Waudby

A more recent one, Tom has played for both sides this season, never mind in his career. Originally at Bridlington, Tom moved to Barton at the beginning of the 2016/17 season. In his time with the Swans he scored 34 goals as well as being our top scorer for two seasons. The central midfielder is now back at Brid and already has two goals to his name this season in their 4-3 win over Penistone Church.

3: Joel Sutton

The prolific striker has scored over 100 goals for Bridlington Town in his career, incidentally, he scored his 100th Brid goal against Barton. He has 109 to his name at the Seasiders as well as three with Barton. Signing for the Swans in 2018, Joel unfortunately broke his leg in a pre-season friendly with North Ferriby. He made a comeback this year and scored a trademark free kick in a 5-2 defeat at Grimsby Borough. He’s now taking a break from the game, and is well regarded at both clubs.
