Swans Under 14’s pick up win at Crosby United
12th October 2020Report by Sean Money
A pleasant sunny but fresh Sunday morning in Crosby, Scunthorpe welcomed us and the fact we had 11 players unlike the previous week when we had 10 was a better start!
A bright start by both teams cancelling each other out paved the way during the early encounters with us guilty of squandering a whole host of chances throughout the half it was Crosby who broke the deadlock with a simple ball played down the middle and their quick centre forward latched onto it and put it away past our advancing goal keeper Luca Marosi.
We grew further from that and continued to dominate despite the goal and still chances came and went with some fantastic forward passing from the back by Sam Elia and good midfield play from Alfie Stearman the score line at half time of 1-0 didn’t reflect our general performance we really should have scored 4 at least.
The second half started with our leading scorer Harvey Robinson instructed to get at least 3 goals and he sprung into life and helped himself to an equaliser early on into the half which was quickly followed up by a 2nd and despite a couple of scares we largely controlled the play.
Crosby did get a bit of fortune as the ball broke free down their right and our keeper came out to collect the ball but the referee unbelievably judged that he fouled the forward and gave a dubious penalty which they despatched to make it 2-2
Possession still remained with us and with some super wing play from both Brendan Jordan and Max Mason we continued to make chances but the Crosby rear guard remained strong that was until man of the match Alfie Stearman got the ball inside the penalty area and he cooly lifted the ball over the goal keeper and into the far post with seconds to spare and a result richly deserved and much needed for everyone but a reminder you must take chances of you want to win a game.
The game finished 3-2 to us and we move onto this Sunday 18th October at home to Brigg Town kick off 10.30am
