“It’s our FA Cup and we are going with one aim and that’s to get into the 4th Round.” Stefan Wolkowski interview
3rd November 2021The Reserves are heading to Billinghay Athletic at the weekend for their Lincolnshire Junior Cup Third Round tie.
The Swans defeated Horncastle Town in the last round and were drawn to face Billinghay of the Boston and District Saturday League.
A packed out bus, a squad of hungry players, and a temporary manager who believes in his side. The Reserves are riding a crest of a wave at the moment, and there are no plans for it to stop.
We spoke to Swans temporary Reserves Manager Stefan Wolkowski about the game ahead, and the support his side have received this season.
BTFC: A tough trip to Billinghay awaits, are you confident of picking up the win?
SW: “It’s our FA Cup and we are going with one aim and that’s to get into the 4th Round. It’s a cup we all want to go far in, we can’t wait.“
It’s been a good start to your reign as temporary manager, how have you found it so far?
“It’s not a bad start but we collectively know that Nettleham and Wyberton games should have been better results for us. But, we are striving to be better, stronger and to really kick on week in week out.“
Is it too early to be thinking about winning the cup? Or is the belief there we can go all the way?
“Ask any player in that squad, they believe they can. That belief can drive you but we need to be focused aswell, step by step.”
A packed out bus of supporters are coming to back you Saturday, will their support help the lads?
“Our away support is superb and to be able to run a bus to the game gives people chance to relax and enjoy the day.”
The performances have been brilliant so far this season, is there any particular reason for this?
“The togetherness is something I’ve not experienced before in a team, they are in this together and it hurts when we lose and it’s amazing when we win. Every single player is trying to be better and I believe as we head into the 2nd half of the season, our experiences so far will help us progress more.“
The support the club has been getting for reserves home games is phenomenal, does it make a difference having a packed ground supporting the lads?
“We get bigger crowds than some NCEL teams, it’s incredible. Brigg a few weeks back was the best I’ve ever experienced at Barton, the atmosphere and the occasion was incredible. You could see the players enjoying it, soaking it all in and playing for the crowd, no better feeling as a footballer. Our aim is to give them fans something to get excited about and hopefully as we go on, a good cup run might just do that.“
We wish Stefan and the Reserves the best of luck at the weekend and hopefully the Swans will be in the fourth round come Saturday evening.
