Sweeting had the first effort of the game just after five minutes. His curled shot was well saved by the Brigg goalkeeper. He had another chance ten minutes later when an excellent Joe Moloney run from the left resulted in a cross. Sweeting couldn’t quite get his foot to it and it rolled out.
The first 20 minutes were all Barton, as Joel Chapman then shot over the bar after some excellent build up play. This was when Brigg were starting to pressure the Swans.
On 35 minutes a cross into the box wasn’t dealt with, and Oakley Luddington got to the ball first. Striking first time past Patrick Shaw and giving Brigg the lead. The Swans were shellshocked and went in at the break one down.
The second half began excellently as the Swans won a free kick. Ewan Train floated the ball in and Wes Naulls’ pass was tapped in by Sweeting to put Barton level. The striker opening his account for the season.
Harry Bowes was introduced with 25 minutes to go as Naulls had another excellent chance. He rounded the defender but his shot was over the bar. The Swans not clinical enough on the day. Bowes was then played in but the Brigg ‘keeper was forced into an excellent save.
With 15 minutes to play Brigg were back in front. A weak pass from Joel Chapman was picked up by Brigg and the through ball found Joe Hare one on one. He tapped it round an on-rushing Patrick Shaw before slotting it into an empty net to secure the win for Brigg, their first of the season.
The Swans piled on the pressure in the last ten minutes. Luke Kershaw’s header from a free kick was saved point blank by the Brigg ‘keeper before a Zebras defender almost scored an own goal. Slicing his clearance out for a corner ball. Bowes had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside before his shot in added time was over the bar.
