The hosts looked sharp from the first whistle, with Paul Grimes crossing the ball to Josh Walker waiting at the back post after just four minutes. He didn’t quite connect with the ball and it rolled out for a goal kick. The next attack would result in a goal however.

Martin Pembleton received the ball on the edge of the area, his shot was deflected and looped over Ryan Musselwhite to open the scoring for the hosts. The Swans were left with a lot of work to do.

The game was very stop-start throughout, and lacked any clear-cut chances in the first half. Though the game was end to end, neither could get a real foothold in the game.

The real moment of contention came after half an hour, when Scott Matthews played the ball to Ben Hinchliffe, who played it through the two defenders and ran onto it before slotting it into the bottom corner. Only for the linesman to rule Hinchliffe was offside, despite receiving the ball in an onside position.

The Swans continued to press for an equalizer, with Nathan Popple pulling off a nice catch to deny Tom Waudby’s header. Sam Cable had a decent curling effort just before the break but again Popple saved it.

Shortly after the restart Cable was played in again when a bouncing through ball was ran onto by the Swans striker. However his attempted lob went wide of the mark.

A corner was floated in on 50 minutes by Matthews, with Fraser Papprill heading it to the back post where Cable was waiting, but Popple again denying Barton.

On the hour mark Will Waudby sped clear of his marker on the left side and crossed the ball low across the face of goal. Brother Tom was waiting at the back post but his outstretched leg didn’t connect with the ball.

Winterton were defending well and looking to get that second goal, and with ten minutes to go Musselwhite was forced into a fantastic save to deny Grimes.

However as the Swans went all out on attacking for the equalizer, Josh Walker broke clear, cut inside and fired his shot past Musselwhite to put the game to bed and ensure the Swans left empty handed.
