The visitors had the first effort of the game, with former Swan Joe Simpson collecting the ball in the area and shooting. It was blocked and out for a corner but the warning signs were there.
Barton then had a couple of chances, with Danny Trott holding the ball up for Tom Waudby whose effort was saved by Jordan Quibell and out for a corner. The corner wasn’t cleared and it fell to Chris Spinks, he teed up Trott but his first time shot was wide of the mark.
After a couple of decent chances for Ben Hinchliffe, Bottesford struck against the run of play. Another Simpson shot was parried by Tom Nicholson into the path of Poachers midfielder Tom Williams who gratefully tapped in to open the scoring and put Bottesford level at the break.
Ten minutes into the second half however the Swans were level. This time Hinchliffe’s shot was parried by Quibell, and Tom Waudby slotted in the rebound for his second goal in as many games.
The game was turned on its head moments later as a quality through ball from Will Waudby played Hinchliffe in one on one. He shot low past Quibell into the bottom corner in an excellent finish to put Barton ahead.
Nicholson was forced into an excellent save shortly after the hour mark when a low driven shot was kept out by the Swans ‘keeper.
It was starting to look nervy for the Swans, with a slender lead against a potent Bottesford attack. Seven minutes before the end and Ryan Thompson’s shot from the edge of the box sailed into the top corner. Nicholson got a hand to it but not strong enough to keep it out.
They then hit the bar two minutes before time but extra time was needed.
Hinchliffe scored his second of the night two minutes into extra time after a melee in the area he tapped home to put the Swans back in front. However just three minutes before the end Jack Cross managed to captialise on a Swans error to score and force the game to penalties.
Jordan Quibell made two penalty saves to be the hero for Bottesford, who scored all four of their penalties, with Tom Waudby scoring for the Swans.
