Swans comeback in vain as Campion take win

Barton Town fought back from 3-1 down but ultimately ended up on the losing side as newly-promoted Campion scored a fourth late on. Tom Waudby’s second hat-trick in three games not able to save the Swans from defeat.

It was an unchanged starting XI from the side that was knocked out of the FA Cup by Grimsby Borough in midweek. Nathan Hotte returned to the bench after a hamstring injury, with Elliott Vasalo and Josh Lacey both unavailable.
Campion had the first chance of the game when Joe Colley headed over the bar, setting the tone for what would be a fruitful first half for the visitors. Campion were handed an opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty. Marcus Day converted it.
A few moments later it was almost two when Colley played Day in on goal with Ryan Musselwhite rushing out to close the gap. He lobbed the Swans ‘keeper but thankfully for Barton the shot hit the roof of the net and out for a goal kick.
Soon before the half-hour mark the Swans were back on level terms when Tom Waudby rifled a shot from the edge of the area into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Campion were forced into a change on 33 minutes when Colley came off for Patrick Sykes. The substitute took just four minutes to restore the visitors’ lead as he put Campion back in front.
It got worse for the Swans when Day scored his second of the game just before the break to put Campion 3-1 up.
The second half was much better from the Swans, with Barton fighting to get back into the game. Midway through the second half the referee awarded the Swans a penalty. Up stepped Tom Waudby to score his second of the game with a coolly taken penalty.
With just a few minutes left on the clock the Swans were awarded another spot kick. Tom Waudby slotted it in to complete his hat-trick, his second in three games, and his seventh goal of the season, comeback complete, or so Barton thought.
Almost immediately from the kick off, Campion broke, with Day slotting it in to seal his own hat-trick and secure the win for the visitors despite the spirited comeback from the Swans.
