The Common Ground – Goole AFC

21st January 2020 Off By bartontown

Plenty of players have played for both Barton Town and Goole AFC over the years. With how close both towns are it would make sense that some players have represented both clubs. Here we look at three in particular.

1: Bill Law

Bill played for Barton during the second half of the 2017/18 season under Dave Ricardo. He was part of the club’s famous 14 game unbeaten run to survival before departing the club in summer 2018. He joined Goole and scored three goals last season for the Vikings as they managed to survive relegation on the final day of the season.

2: Danny Buttle

The journeyman winger has played for an array of clubs in his career, with Barton and Goole being two of them. Way back in the 2011-12 season, Danny scored four goals for the club, helping the ‘Old Boys’ to an 11th place finish that season. He played 16 times for Goole last season, scoring once in a 1-1 draw with Bottesford Town. Danny is now at Winterton Rangers.

3: Dean Windass

That’s right, new Goole AFC Chairman Dean Windass once played for Barton Town. Dean scored a hat-trick for us in August 2010 in a 3-1 win against Yorkshire Amateur. The Hull City legend only made a handful of appearances for Barton but showed he still had his clinical touch. Dean was appointed Chairman of the Vikings this week, and we look forward to welcoming him back to Barton.
