Barton Town crashed out of the FA Vase with a 4-2 loss to NCEL Division One side Nostell Miners Welfare.

The Swans were 4-0 down after Ben Teasdale opened the scoring, Jack Owen scored twice, and Kane Reece added the fourth. Barton fought back with goals from Marc Cooper and Craig Disley but it wasn’t enough to redeem themselves.

The Swans began by playing some good football, and chances from Reece Moody and Joe Busby meant we arguably started the game on top.

After 19 minutes, and not much in the name of action, Nostell took the lead. A low shot was spilled by Harvey Cartwright, and after a failed attempt to clear the ball it was passed to Teasdale, who put the ball in the back of the net.

This appeared to shock Barton, as following the goal the Swans struggled in the final third. The Swans were just lacking that final pass to put the ball in the back of the net and were still very much in the game at the break, being only a goal down.

Just before half time Moody had a golden chance to equalize. Busby squared the ball along the floor and Moody met it at the near post. However, his shot went wide and Barton were a goal down.

The game was lost for The Swans after a ten-minute spell shortly after the break which saw the Swans concede three goals.

Jack Owen doubled Nostell’s lead when he shot at goal. It was an innocuous shot, but as it approached Cartwright he parried it into the net. 52 minutes on the clock and Barton were two down.

Three minutes later Kane Reece curled a shot into the back of the net in what was a good finish for the Nostell attacker.

The Swans capitulation was complete on 62 minutes when Owen scored his second in another nicely taken effort from the edge of the area, nothing Cartwright could do about it.

The fourth goal appeared to spring Barton into life, as second half substitute Marc Cooper’s shot cannoned in off the post to give Barton what appeared to be a consolation goal.

However, the Swans were in the ascendancy, and were boxing Nostell into their own half with not many opportunities coming to them. They attempted to hit the Swans on the counterattack various times but couldn’t make it work.

Swans skipper Disley got to a cross with a low header as he gave Barton another goal, but with five minutes left to play a comeback appeared unlikely.

The Swans crashed out of the Vase at the Second Qualifying Round stage, and now can focus entirely on the league campaign.
