Barton Town continued their preparations for the new season by coming back from two goals down to draw with Cleethorpes Town.
In our latest pre-season friendly we took on our local rivals, who play in the league above ours. The Swans squad is starting to take shape for the 2019/20 season, and Tom Waudby and Marc Cooper scored two second half goals to tie the game.
The visitors didn’t take long to take the lead, as after just two minutes Brody Robertson’s shot from just outside the area was in the back of the net. It was a well taken shot which was just out of the ‘keeper’s reach.
The Swans however played some great football during the first half. They also had their chances to get back into the game. A golden chance came when Peter Winn was played in, but the full back’s shot went high and wide over the goal.
Despite the Swans’ best efforts, they went two down when Scott Vernon managed to finish off a well-executed Cleethorpes move to tap in for the second goal. It appeared Barton’s lack of clinical finishing from last season had reared its ugly head once again.
However, those fears were soon extinguished on 72 minutes as a fantastic ball from captain Craig Disley found Tom Waudby, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner to put Barton back in with a shout.
Nine minutes later the Swans were level. Reece Moody was brought down in the area but the referee waved play on and Moody managed to get the ball to Marc Cooper. He put the ball in the back of the net and the score remained 2-2.
A fantastic game for the neutral between two strong sides.
