The Swans started brightly, but it was Staveley who had the first real chance of the game. Sam Riches came out to meet an attacker, he got the ball past Riches but Rogerson was on hand to pull off a neat goal line clearance.

Rogerson went from defender to goalscorer as he pulled off a fantastic diving header from a Tom Waudby cross to put Barton in the lead.

Barton appeared to sit back on their 1-0 lead and invite Staveley to attack. A couple of small lapses in concentration almost cost the Swans as Staveley were looking to equalize. However the Riches and the defence were quick to atone for any errors made and neutralised each Staveley attack.

55 minutes in and Staveley managed to break clear, effectively two on one with our goal. However the ensuing shot was saved by Riches and parried out for a corner.

Tom Waudby, who put in a brilliant performance, picked the ball up from just inside our half, and went on a surging run, holding off a defender the whole way, breaking into their area before his shot went sailing over the bar.

The Swans were made to pay for this miss as Jon Froggatt powered a shot home to put Staveley back on level terms with 25 minutes left to play.

71 minutes saw Barton reduced to ten men as Tom Sawyer was shown a straight red following a feisty challenge. Staveley surrounded the referee and were pushing Sawyer, who to his credit didn’t retaliate.

Chris Salt came on for his debut at the back and performed well in his brief cameo appearance. He looks to be a good utility option for the Swans.

Both sides were looking for that goal to seal the three points, which arguably neither side deserved as it was a fine contest and a late winner would have been harsh on either side, however Staveley managed to steal it.

Tomas Poole ran with the ball and slotted it past Riches to seal a late win and keep the Trojans top of the NCEL Premier Division.

Barton went home empty handed and broken hearted. However a fantastic performance from each player and it’s clear Craig Denton is laying some good foundations for the Swans and a turnaround in fortunes can’t be far away.
