Barton Town are into the next round of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy after an enthralling game at Division One side Skegness Town.

The hosts raced into a three goal lead before half time. The Swans came out fighting in the second half however and goals from Craig Disley, Ben Hinchliffe and Marc Cooper pulled Barton back into it. The game ended level and Barton won the penalty shootout with Sam Riches saving two penalties and the Swans scoring all four of their efforts.

The squad was threadbare, with just 11 players available and no substitutes, Swans boss Craig Denton had a tough job ahead of him. Skegness are top of the NCEL Division One and had a strong squad.

The hosts opened the scoring on 20 minutes after a shot from Elliot Broughton took a deflection which caught out Sam Riches. The ball looped in and Skegness were ahead.

Barton were being restricted to half chances, with the Skegness defence holding firm. The Lilywhites doubled their lead soon after the half hour mark.

A nice counter-attacking move fed Gary King, and he ran in on goal and slotted the ball past an on-rushing Riches. The ball went in off the post.

Moments later Marc Cooper was sent to the sin bin for apparent dissent towards the linesman to put Barton down to ten until half time.

On the stroke of half time Daniel Reid put Skegness supposedly out of sight as he was left unmarked at the back post. King squared it to him and he tapped it in to put Skegness 3-0 up at the break.

The Swans came out at half time with a point to prove, and six minutes into the half Craig Disley curled the ball in from 20 yards out to pull the Swans back into the game. A brilliant finish from the captain.

Not one to be upstaged, Swans top scorer Ben Hinchliffe scored his 13th of the season with a fantastic effort from 25 yards out. The goal pulled it back to 3-2 and gave Barton real hope of getting something from the game.

On 69 minutes Sam Riches pulled off a fantastic save which kept Barton in the game. A venomous volley from the edge of the area was palmed away by the Swans ‘keeper. This kept the score at 3-2, and with Barton in the ascendancy, an equalizer wasn’t far away.

77 minutes in and finally the equalizer came. There was a melee in the area and Marc Cooper managed to slot the ball in to pull Barton back from three goals down.
