The Reserves fell to an agonising 2-1 defeat to the hands of Beverley Town at a cold & windy Easy Buy stadium on Saturday.

The Swans reserve outfit made just one change to the starting 11 from the previous week’s victory over Sculcoates. Tad Dixon came in to replace the missing Clay Bryant. The squad was boosted by the comebacks of Elliot Sampson and the incoming former Swans favourite Tom Darwood.

Both sides started brightly and got to grips with the tough conditions early, Beverley Town applying early pressure to Dunn’s goal, who was at full stretch to tip over the top in the opening five minutes.

Dunn was again called into action thwarting a Beverley attack as he got down low to snatch the ball away from Dunkerley.

Barton struck a blow to the game plan when Atkinson pulled up with his groin after making a tackle, and Beverley capitalised whilst the Swans were readying a substitute as O’Connell hit a cracker into the far top corner from outside the box on 25 minutes to put Beverley 1-0 up.

Tom Darwood was introduced straight after, and he was the one who sent over a pin point diagonal ball for young Kian Salter to meet first time on the volley which went into the bottom corner of the Beverley goal to level things up in the 36th minute.

Barton finished the half strongly and were forcing Beverley back for the late stages of the first half, but to no success as both sides went in level at the break.

The second half was up and running quickly as Barton Town Reserves looked to have stayed in the dressing room for the opening minutes , and Beverley punished some woeful defending just two minutes into the second half when Organ broke clear and dispatched the ball for what ultimately would be the winner.

Barton battled and battled and found Beverley’s keeper in good form, but despite shouts for a penalty midway through the second half which looked a certain spot kick, only for the referee to blow for a foul in Beverley’s favour much to the amusement of many in the ground.

Barton pushed forward in numbers in the final stages, and Darwood’s goal bound effort hit one of his own players to deny the Reserves a point and see Beverley hang on for all three points in what was a very competitive game.

The Reserves now turn attention to a huge game when hosting Hull United at the Easy Stadium this coming Saturday, the sides drew 0-0 at the Steve Prescott Centre earlier in the season.
