New Under 15’s side lose out to Marshalls Sports Vikings

Barton Town Under 15’s lost in their first league match of the season to Marshalls Sports Vikings. The new look side, managed by Shaun Drury, were playing their first game under the Barton Town name.

The first match as a team since March and it showed. We were a yard short of pace and gave Viking’s too much time on the ball and found ourselves behind early on. That set the tone of the game. Three of last season’s reserves now occupied first team places owing to a slow summer in recruiting new players but they fitted in well.

We came into the game as the half went on but we were  punished three more times to find ourselves 4-0 down. We did pull a goal back before the half time whistle after a poor foul outside the box, Connor stepped up and his goal bound shot was deflected of a Viking’s players head and the ball looped over the ‘keeper.

We had more of the possession in the second half and looked a much more confident side but were struggling with match fitness from all the hard work put in that first half. We were punished for some indecisive decision to make the score 1-7. Although we created several good chances we just didn’t have that finishing touch.

Although not the result we wanted there were some positives to take from the game and some good individual performances.

The next game for the Under 15’s is away to Barton Juniors next Sunday.
