Under 14’s lose to Marshalls Sports

A fine Sunday morning greeted us for our first competitive game since mid March away in Gainsborough for our league opener against a strong and very physical Marshall Sports.

The game started very even for the first 10-20 minutes with chances for both sides but the better chances coming to us which we failed to convert and then against the run of play they took the lead which made us dig in more to get our rewards then finally we took one of our chances when Harvey Robinson cooly slotted home. Our dominance continued with really good midfield battles largely won by Cole Hodson and Sam Elia and along with Jay Holtby plenty of chances were created.

Typically as the 1st half nearly ended and again against the run of play Marshall Sports scored making the halftime score 2-1 which was harsh on us thus making the next goal crucial.

The 2nd half started relatively evenly with them making plenty of alterations to their team and then scoring their 3rd and then we quickly conceded a penalty making it 4 then our heads started to go down.

Marshall Sports continued to use their 15 man strong squad and rotated players regularly keeping them fresh and full of running but as time was running out we did find something and again some great midfield play from playmaker Sam Elia knocked the outlet ball to the left to Max Mason who smartly cut inside onto his right foot and excellently executed a curling finish into the top right corner.

The options they had told as they finally ran out 9-2 winners which in fairness flattered them. Plenty of positives came from the game given the score line but we go again and aim to bounce back against Messingham Juniors this coming Sunday
