There were two changes for the Swans with Scott Matthews and Josh Lacey making way for Josh Smaller and Sam Cable. New signing Brooklyn Dennis was on the bench.
Garforth were dominant in the first half, with Swans goalkeeper Ryan Musselwhite on top form. He produced an excellent double save 15 minutes in, keeping the game scoreless.
It was an exciting end to end first half, with Cable having an effort saved by Harry Flatters, who also had a great game. Tom Waudby also going close for Barton but his effort was deflected and out for a corner.
The hosts almost took the lead when the ball was squared across the six yard box but Sam Barker couldn’t quite get a foot to it.
Soon before the break Nash Connolly was played in, and just before he could take the shot Clark Greaves pulled off a fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny the Garforth attacker. More excellent goalkeeping from Musselwhite in a man of the match display denied Garforth and the scores were level at the break.
The hosts came out the blocks firing for the second half, Dan Coupland with a couple of chances, with Musselwhite denying him both times.
On the hour-mark Fraser Papprill went down with an injury, having to be replaced by Tom Davie. New signing Brooklyn Dennis was also introduced.
20 minutes into the half a long ball bounced over, Flatters came out to gather it, but Cable managed to outmuscle his defender, prod it past the ‘keeper, before slotting it under a jumping Garforth defender to score his second goal in as many games and give Barton the lead.
With 15 minutes to go Garforth were pushing for the equalizer and finally got one. Jordan Emery missed the ball in the area but managed to win it back, before an excellent backheel into the path of Barker. The Garforth striker struck low past a group of Swans defenders.
Swans boss Nathan Jarman brought himself on and was sin-binned moments later for dissent. With less than ten minutes to go the Swans would have to play the rest of the game with ten men.
Moments later Garforth broke down the right, a cross drilled low across the area wasn’t picked up and Lee Turner was on hand to tap the ball past Musselwhite and give the hosts the lead.
Thanks to seven added minutes Jarman was able to come back on, but the Swans couldn’t find an equalizer and left West Yorkshire empty handed.
